Wow! What a Weekend

Wow! What a weekend is right!! Friday night Sean and Matt headed out to Iowa City for another night of tailgating and I actually had a Friday night off for the first time in a loooooooong time. Of course, I had it off because it was Beggar's Night. Mother Nature was not being a very loving mother though, and was giving us a bitterly cold wind. Didn't want to take any chances with my lil' bug getting sick, so we skipped it. Instead, we hunkered down inside and watched some TV, sang some songs, read some books, and as always, had some great snuggle time.

Saturday came around and Keelyn helped me get some serious house cleaning and laundry done. After her nap, we decided to go to Hobby Lobby, Target and Fareway. We started at Hobby Lobby and was unfortunately unable to make it to Target due to someone getting cranky. Wonder who that would be? Well, the mile drive from Hobby Lobby to Fareway was just what the sleep fairy ordered... our lil' bug fell asleep :). This made my shopping at Fareway a bit easier.

Check out the goods! There were some pretty darn good sales going on and as usual, I try to stock up when I can. I got all of these goodies put away and started to make one of Sean's favorite suppers to congratulate him on the Hawks' big win*.

*I would like to personally take credit for the win this weekend. You see, I didn't have the game on to start because I didn't know what channel it was on. After searching the first two channels I could think of (abc & Big Ten Network), I checked out ESPN and sure enough, there it was. First though? Eeeewwww... Sean's not gonna be in a good mood. They were behind 21-7. I turned the TV on to see Indiana score another 3 points, then those comeback kids turned a 7 into a 42. Crazy. Anyway, Hawkeye Nation, you're welcome :). They wouldn't have won without me... and Keelyn of course :)

But... I digress. Back to the congratulatory supper. Minute steaks...

and cheesy potatoes!!!!! Mmmmm.... mouth watering goodness :)

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!!! Oh no. Homemaker Heather kicked into OVERDRIVE and I also made

apple crisp. Oh yeah baby! This was the real deal. Homemade apple crisp with apples from the orchard (ya know, from last Sunday's outing with Mom & Dad). As you can see, I couldn't wait to try it. It was delish!

Today, I decided it was time to start a project. Yesterday while Keelyn and I went to run our errands, we went to Hobby Lobby (don't ya just love that store?). I was on a hunt for a wooden butterfly that I could paint. Unfortunately, they didn't have one. So we meandered through the store and I found this HORRIBLY hot pink painted flower. Some would love it instantly. Me? I knew it was gonna need some TLP (tender lovin' paint) to make it in my house. So I picked up a can of lavendar spray paint, and some fun, funky ribbon.

Silly me didn't think to get a "before" picture, but you can see how hot pink this metal sculpture was. WAY.TOO.MUCH for this Mommy to handle!!

But... after some serious strokes back and forth with the spray paint can, I got this.

Then, I cut equal length pieces of the two different ribbons, used the lighter stick to singe the ends (it helps stop the fraying, ya know... this also works on shoe laces after the nice plastic coating peels off the end) and attached them to the flower like so.

Then, I found the perfect place to hang it in Keelyn's room.

And then I decorated it with....

HAIRBOWS & HEADBANDS!!!

I must say that I am 100% in LOVE with this simple project! It's not exactly what I've been dreaming about, but it will certainly do. Now I just need to get some more hairbows. If you look carefully, you'll be able to tell that we have PLENTY of black, purple & gold (hmmm... interesting combination of colors...) but no pink. Yes, I know, we all know my dislike of the color, but Keelyn seems to like it (and look good in it), so I guess we're going to have to make a trip to Pink Hippo one of these days to get some more.

And, of course, what would a post be without another beautiful picture of Keelyn.

Such a cutie in her overalls.

Do you ever wonder if she's thinking, 'Would you puh-LEASE put that camera down!?!??!'

Nah... me either :)

And now it's time to hit the sack to get rested for another great week.
